Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2

Standing Together: Magnolia Companies & Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Published: October 20, 2025 / Last Updated: October 20, 2025

October is more than fall colors and cooler weather; it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when communities across the U.S. and the world unite to raise awareness, support survivors, and encourage prevention through education. At Magnolia Companies, our commitment goes beyond maintaining homes and businesses; we’re dedicated to supporting the well-being and health of the communities we serve through our ongoing work to promote community health and by offering features in our services that contribute to a healthier environment.

What Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

An annual campaign, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is held every October to spotlight breast cancer — its impact, the importance of early detection, and the support systems available for those affected.

  • The movement began in 1985 through partnerships among cancer organizations and companies to educate people about breast cancer and promote mammography.
  • One key milestone during this month is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day on October 13, which highlights breast cancer that has spread beyond the breast.
  • Across the U.S., each year, nearly one (1) in eight (8) women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis.
  • But there’s encouragement: when breast cancer is caught early, treatment options and positive outcomes improve significantly.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month isn’t just symbolic; it’s a call to action: to get screened, to listen to your body, and to support research and resources.

Take this opportunity to learn more about breast cancer and review available resources or guidelines for early detection and support.

Why Awareness Matters

  • Early detection saves lives. The earlier breast cancer is identified and diagnosed, the better the chances of effective treatment.
  • Many cases lack obvious risk factors. About half of breast cancer cases occur in people with no known risk factors other than age and sex.
  • Disparities persist. Specific populations face more barriers to screening or treatment, which often leads to worse outcomes.
  • Support and awareness matter. Awareness helps fund research, care support, and education, including educational content that improves outcomes and supports lives!

Ways You Can Control to Stay Aware & Take Action

Here are practical steps you can take during (and beyond) October:

  • Schedule your screening. For those of average risk, annual mammograms often begin around age 40 (consult your doctor). Keep an account or record of your screenings and any changes you notice. If you notice any changes in your breast or underarm area, don’t delay medical evaluation.
  • Know your “normal.” Pay attention to how your breasts look and feel. Any change in shape, texture, dimpling, skin redness, or nipple differences warrants attention.
  • Adopt healthy lifestyle choices. Maintain a healthy weight, stay physically active, limit alcohol, and eat a balanced diet. These are all factors that can reduce overall cancer risk.
  • Support and educate others. Share resources with friends, family, and coworkers. Participate in local awareness walks or fundraisers. Invite a healthcare speaker to your workplace or community.
  • Volunteer or donate. Many nonprofit organizations provide screening assistance, patient support, and research funding. Your time or financial support can make a real difference.
  • Advocate for equitable care. Advocate for policies and programs that close gaps in screening access, timely diagnosis, and treatment, especially in underserved communities.

Magnolia Companies’ Commitment & Community Spirit

While Magnolia’s core mission is providing plumbing, heating, cooling, and utilities services across the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area, our roots run deep in this community.

During October, we’re dedicating efforts to:

  • Raise awareness among our employees, customers, and local partners.
  • Promote preventive health by reminding our teams and customers to stay current with screenings.

We believe prevention and awareness are essential to community well-being.
