Beware of These Ductless Problems

As you rely on your ductless system to keep you cool this summer, you should be aware of some of the problems that it can run into. Time is of the essence when it comes to repairing climate control issues, so it’s a good idea to be familiar with some of the signs that your system is in trouble. Let’s take a look at some of the signs that your ductless system needs repairs.

Failing Bearings

Each air handler in the system is outfitted with oiled bearings, which helps to reduce the amount of friction on the system. Over time, the bearings wear down and the friction on the air handler increases. If this problem isn’t solved, the air handler will overheat and burn itself out. If you hear a grinding noise coming from your air handler, call for repairs right away. That’s a sure sign that the bearings need to be replaced.

Refrigerant Leaks

Refrigerant is the core of the ductless system, responsible for transporting heat back and forth during operation. If a leak develops in the refrigerant line, it will drain the system of the fluid that it needs to operate. This causes a steady decline in output, and will eventually result in a full system breakdown. If you notice a decline in output, or fluid leaking from your system, call for repairs right away.

Frozen Coils

If the flow of warm air to the coil in the air handler is cut off for any reason, it can freeze over. This causes a sharp decline in output. The ice can also travel down the refrigerant line to other parts of the system, resulting in multiple malfunctions. If you see ice forming on your ductless air handler coils, call for repairs as soon as possible.
