MAGNOLIA FAMILY FOUNDATION

The Magnolia Family has a long history of giving back and offering a helping hand to our local neighbors and community members. It all started with our founder, Joseph J. Magnolia — or J.J., as his close friends and family knew him — who strongly believed in using his resources and skills to help others in need. The son of Italian immigrants, J.J. was very familiar with the trials of poverty. He was often found working on boilers and heating systems during the cold winter months and making plumbing repairs for those who could not afford to pay for essential services. The values of community and making a positive difference in someone’s life were deeply ingrained in J.J.’s personality, and they became an integral part of the Magnolia Family brand.

These beliefs were passed on to his sons and grandsons, Joe Sr., John, Joe Jr., Dominic, Chris, and Tony, who continued tradition by providing free or discounted services, which has since become the impetus for the formation of the Magnolia Family Foundation.

The Magnolia Family Foundation is a donor fund founded in 2008 by John D. Magnolia, which allows the Magnolia Family of Companies to donate to approximately 30 different nonprofit organizations and charities in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Our companies have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars on an annual basis to specific charities where the Magnolia Family felt that their contribution could make an impact. In fact, some of our family members have even become board members for various organizations supporting local hospitals, schools, and other organizations catering to families in the metropolitan area.

Our community has seen far too many men, women, and children suffer from homelessness, hunger, drug and alcohol abuse, and mental health and behavioral issues. It is our mission to have the foundation funds directly contribute to the needs of the community, specifically in the areas of medical assistance, tuition assistance, homelessness, hunger, basic life skill training, career path guidance, trade school education, and programs assisting the inner city.

The Magnolia Family of Companies, in operation for over 70 years, now includes 4th generation family members who are being taught the value of giving back to the community. Through the Magnolia Family Foundation, we hope to continue the legacy J.J. started so long ago for many years to come.
